Well this is something i should've done months ago, but hopefully late is better than never.
Ellie-Jayne is my third child. During my first ultrasound scan at the James Paget Hospital, a large Cystic Hygroma was seen on my baby. My care was then transferred to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. I had a CVS carried out to rule out Downs Syndrome and Turners Syndrome. As the pregnancy developed, it became apparent that her heart wasn't quite right and a scan at Great Ormond Street Hospital confirmed that she had Tetralogy of Fallot. Several scans and check-ups later from very helpful staff, inparticular the doctor, i was booked in or induction at just over 38 weeks. As unpleasant as giving birth is, the experience was relatively straight-forward, until i needed to deliver the afterbirth. During labour, the midwives had been amazingly helpful, pleasant, kind, caring, helpful and professional. My afterbirth got stuck and i was taken to Theatre to have in manually removed. I'd had a short cuddle with my daughter before this and she was sent to NICU. Out of theatre i was suffering a little as had lost a lot of blood and had to have a blood transfusion. All i wanted was to see my baby and became understandably upset. NICU took a photo of my baby, printed it and sent it to my room which was a massive help, a brilliant, helpful idea. i improved but Ellie-Jayne needed to stay in NICU for a short while due to her known about heart condition. During her 5 day stay, she was so well cared for and all staff were amazing. The doctors working in this unit are incredible, one doctor picked Ellie-Jayne up and thought something felt wrong, after an initial scan of her brain, complete Agenesis of the Corpus Collosum was suspected (a later MRI scan at James Paget Hospital confirmed this). To be alerted to this from just holding her is to me amazing. Blood tests for Gene testing were also carried out which have shown my daughter also has Trisomy 8 Mosaicism. Whilst under this hospitals care, Ellie-Jayne and myself received fantastic treatment. On NICU, i noticed one doctor was literally always about. I have a lot of respect for this doctor as it is obvious that she is totally dedicated to her work and in incredibly hardworking. She is also patient, kind, caring and professional.
Thank you all so much.
