Anything else?
I have been in the Day Surgery Unit today for a lumbar epidural and an S1 nerve root block. The Consultant and his Team were professional and caring. My procedures turned out to be difficult, but nothing was too much trouble and the staff showed compassion when it was required - they earned their money with me!
When I went into Recovery I could not have been better looked after. Staff worked well together as a Team, supporting each other to ensure no job was left undone. I have never had an epidural before, so did not know what to expect. It took a very long time for its effects to wear off and I ended up being the last person to leave the Unit. The staff remained caring to the end.
I observed excellent examples of leadership and management, patient care, team work, safe practices and Health & Safety procedures followed. The little touches made a difference as well - the hand held, the hug given and the drinks made. To my Consultant, you are an amazing, humble, down-to-earth consultant, to my nurse you give the best hugs, have a lovely nurse/patient manner, have knowing eyes like a hawk and make great (not "rank") coffee, to the sister on duty, you deal well with difficult situations and listen well to your staff, to the nurse who was concerned about my cellulitis and phoned the Consultant, you are a born nurse and are so obviously willing to go the extra mile.
I have nothing but praise for you all and, the next time I'm in, I plan not to be the last out of the Department! Thank you all so much. People who complain about the NHS need to appreciate just what we have.
