"pre-op good post op not entirely satisfied"

About: Southampton NHS Treatment Centre

Anything else?

I recently had gallbladder surgery at the Southampton Centre. Everything prior to the surgery was super efficient, I really couldn't fault it at all. Every appointment I had was on time and my surgery was brought forward a few weeks as there was an available slot. The day of the surgery was efficient and the operation was successful (I think!). Sad to say that once the op was over and although I was officially an in patient, there seemed an awful rush to get me out and I didn't necessarily feel it was for my own good. It felt that the orthopaedic patients were higher profile than general surgery patients and I accept that this may have been based on clinical need but my husband and another patient and their family commented on how obvious it was. I didn't feel well enough to go home late in the evening yet I was made to feel that I should have done during the night when a member of staff indicated such. I had to ask for food and drink when I was able to eat as I was not offered any. I was offered an extremely limited selection of cold food as there was little suitable for post cholocystectomy patients in the fridge. The staff were professional at all times but the super efficiency of the centre did result in an experience that was detrimental to the caring side of the NHS. Don't get me wrong, the treatment centre did exactly what it was contracted to do for me but I couldn't help feeling that the speed of the service took precedence over the personal experience. I would attend again but then I was never given the option of going anywhere else and didn't know I had an option.
