"Needed help to give up smoking"

My wife and myself have a son who has been very ill over the last few months with leukemia, as a result of this we were stressed and found it hard to stop smoking. We came to a point where we both felt that we now wanted to try to stop. We went along to Chorley hospital first to a 'Stop Smoking Service'. they were very helpful and pleasant and the nurse there, Emily was most helpful. We were advised by her to go to our local GP surgery to the clinic there and see the nurse. When we did this we were treated very rudely, the nurse asked us why we wanted to stop smoking. We started to explain about our son and the pressure that we had been under and that now he was getting better we felt ready to try to give up. She was very insensitive and rude and said that she had looked at our notes and seen that we had both been treated for depression and that this new treatment the 'Champix' tablet was no use to us. We were made to feel that we should not be there and had no choice but to go home, we were very annoyed and felt that we had gone for help and that we were turned away. I had been on anti-depressants when my son had been very ill and my wife due to the menopause. I am now going to make an appointment to see my doctor and hope that he can help. No alternative help was given to us and we felt that we were dealt with very rudely.
