"lack of consistency in care"

About: Watford General Hospital

Anything else?

The lack of nurses in AAU white 1 was well lets say upsetting.

I understand this is a high care ward but I feel that the care my grandad was given was not upto the standard it should be.

Also how other patients were being cared for, for example not having a urine bottle and having called for a nurse and them not coming having to use either a cup or water jug or sit there and wet themselves and this is happening daily, on any level where is that ok for this to happen.

The problem you have with this ward is the lack of nurses and also the same nurses are not working in this ward so you dont get the same care everyday, which when I have spoken to the nurses find this upsetting as well, that they can not give the care they want to because they dont have enough time to do it as they are under staffed

Thank you for taking the trouble and time to comment on you and your grandad’s difficult experience at Watford General's Acute Admissions Unit, which we sincerely regret. We’re always concerned to hear of any patients or family members who are unhappy with the care and service they have received, and issues of this nature are taken very seriously.

Without full details of your grandad’s specific case and our commitment to patient confidentiality it is difficult to comment here. But the importance of a wholly positive patient experience is one of our key objectives.

We know that our senior clinical colleagues will want to investigate this thoroughly on your behalf, so we can look into what went wrong for your grandad, and why. Apart from giving you some answers, if would also help put things right if we can. Therefore if you are willing to do so, please contact us directly at wherts-tr.complaintsteam@nhs.net . We will aim to thoroughly investigate these issues promptly, and provide you with a detailed response.
