I rushed my 10 week old son (at the time) into A&E because he was not right in himself. Being cold, floppy and sleepy after vomiting quite copious amounts during the morning. Firstly, a huge thank you to the ward clerk in the children's A&E department for recognising my son should be seen straight away. She clerked me in then went and found a nurse straight away to come and see him. Secondly a huge thank you to the nurses who took him straight in and gave him all the necessary interventions to keep him alive. Thirdly to the doctors/registrar who assisted him also. I'm sorry for not remembering their names to thank them individually. After stabilising him he was transferred round to resus and again the team were fantastic. He had suspected meningitis i was told and i was informed of the treatment and drugs he needed at the time. During the course of the day he was taken to ward 10 and stopped for a total of 5 nights. I cannot fault the staff at all. The only thing which left me frustrated that once his lumbar puncture came back negative, pleased as i was, i never found out what was wrong with him. He fell ill so suddenly and they put it down to shock secondary to gastroenteritis. The main thing is i now have a healthy and happy little 6 month old baby boy and so i believe it mostly down to the quick thinking actions and care of everybody involved. the child play specialist also made a lot of effort to find baby friendly toys for him too. im not forgetting thanks to the porters, domestics and housekeepers also and anyone else ive missed. My first christmas may have been very different so thank you!!!! from the bottom of my heart. i believe you dont often get the praise you need and deserve so i hope what ive said makes you proud of what you do because you really are great at what you do.

You've been very complimentary about lots of staff in many areas of our Children's Emergency Department and Children's Hospital, and we will make sure that they get to see your kind words. Of course there are lots of people that play a role in the care of our patients, and its touching that you remembered so many in your thanks and praise.

We're sorry that you felt a bit frustrated and not having your sons condition explained to you, especially as the staff would have gladly answered any questions you may have had.
