"Treatment Center Leighton Hospital Crewe"

About: Leighton Hospital

Anything else?

I was due to have my carpal tunnel op on my hand , my appointment was 11.30am on Tuesday 19th Feb . I arrived to pleasant helpful staff, I changed into my gown and dressing gown . I waited an hour or so and asked when did they think I would be going down.

I was then told that the afternoon surgery started at 1.30 pm! and I was 4th on the list so should be seen at 4.30pm! I asked why had I and 3 other ladies been brought in at 11.30 am, to be told that the surgeon Secretary arranged the times. They agreed with my views of "Why didn't they ask us to come in later as we were have local anesthetics " even if it was 1pm . So my self and 3 others wasted 5 hours sitting in our gowns when certainly I wouldn't have had to cancel my work that morning and loose money being self employed. When leaving I overheard a nurse talking to an elderly gentleman who had been waiting 6 hours for his wife . There isn't even a machine for hot drink in this treatment center .

They said to complain to PAL as their views weren't listened too. My which is why I m putting my views here as local office has no email no phone so how do I complain !!

I m sure if common sense prevailed the NHS would be able to save a lot of money and receive less complaints .

Saying all of this everyone bar a certain nurse were lovely helpful and professional .

I would like to express my thanks for your comments regarding your recent treatment and taking the time to give us feedback. I am very sorry that you have had cause to raise concerns regarding your length of wait prior to surgery. Patients are currently scheduled by the specialty who are performing the surgery. In your case, this was the Orthopaedic team rather the Treatment Centre directly. Currently patients are all admitted at the same time to enable the surgeon to complete the consent process and answer any questions before commencing his / her operating list. However, we appreciate this results in a longer wait for some patients than others and this is currently under review as part of our new theatre build. It is planned to incorporate a surgical admissions lounge and changes to Consultant job plans to allow for staggered admission time to be implements for patients. Orthopaedic schedulers and Ward staff have now received your feedback and will ensure patients are informed about delays and their causes. I would like to reassure you that the Trust is committed to improving the quality of care patients receive in the treatment centre. Please accept my assurance that we will address your concerns through our new theatre project.

Once again, many thanks for taking the time and trouble to let us know about your experience. Helen Nutkins, Modern Matron
