"Lack of care by medical team"

I was admitted to the department of psychiatry, Eastbourne. There I was ignored and spent many hours crying in my room, tormented by my experiences.

At this point I wasn't taking any medication, having been stopped from taking clozapine on admission. I had also been stopped from taking my anti depressant. I requested to be put back on clozapine but the medical team wanted to titrate me 3 times faster than normal. As a result of this, I was often to dizzy and ill to get out of bed and the staff ignored that too, assuming I had "been sleeping a lot. " I asked to be taken off the clozapine and was not on any medication for about 2 weeks.

I asked the doctors what I had to do to get out of hospital and they said I had to agree to take some medication. In desperation, I agreed to take risperidone, a medication I have taken before that has not worked in the past but has minimal side effects for me. Within 1 week of starting risperidone, I was given overnight leave for 2 weeks, with the condition to return to the hospital every 3 days to be given more leave.

At no point did anyone ask if the medicine had had any effect or if I was feeling better. I was discharged after these 2 weeks. I was also not offered an anti depressant even though my moods were continuously low for the entirety of the admission (6 weeks) and I had constant suicidal thoughts.

I still feel the same, if not worse at times, as I did when I was admitted. It seems to me like the medical team just wanted to put me on a medication and discharge me without bothering to check if I was any better or not.

I am very sorry that you feel so bad still and that your stay at the Department of Psychiatry did not help. It is clear to me that we need to talk with you and work out in detail what went wrong and what we can do to put it right.
