"NHS needs more suport from Medical Professionals"

About: King George Hospital

Anything else?

I have been meaning to write this review for a while and apologise for the tardiness. I wanted to say a very big "thank you" to all the staff at King Georg's who looked after my very sick and elderly mother last November. She went in for a replacement knee operation, a procedure I thought very risky for a lady of 90, but it was what she wanted to be free from pain and confinement to the house. The operation was fine, but she contracted pneumonia - less than 10 years ago this would have been the end for most people - and I was called up from 80 miles away to more or less say goodbye. However, the standard of care given was of the highest quality I have seen for a long while. I wish my local hospital could boast this level of nursing, medical intervention, and general compassion. This last element is the one thing that is being lost in modern treatment, but King George's has obviously seen how important this is. I was astounded to be asked for an opinion on the amount of ice cream Mum had consumed, and this was written down. Usually, relatives are ignored or seen as an intrusion into the "factory" environment we have become accustomed to. So, KG, keep up the good work, keep improving and try through the various meetings to bring back the care of the patient as the core of the "business. Mum went home, in the care of my brother who has been wonderful, and she is doing fine.
