"cardiac arrest in A and E"

About: Lister Hospital

Anything else?

I brought my husband to A and E Lister on morning of 13th July 2012, he had chest pains similar to indigestion. He was seen promply, ECG show no problem but after X-Ray he arrested. I screamed for help and my daughter ran to staff in X-Ray. He was given CPR and defribulator. A wonderful young matron kept myself and daughter informed - it took 5 tries to get Brian's heart going. He was taken to have stent fitted. 6 weeks in ICU due to pneumonia. I cannon fault the staff in A and E or ICU, HDU. He was given utmost care and thanks to the prompt action of A and E X-Ray staff he is now fit and well with no lasting effects. He was able to thank one of the guys who worked on him when he came in for an X Ray this year. It was emotional for both of us. There is one person we have not been able to thank and that is a young Aneathatist Registrar who looked after him as part of the team in ICU, he also worked in A and E. Would love to thank him personally. Thank you once again for the wonderful ( When he was under sedation and fighting for his life I promised myself that I would never moan about his snoring again - thats gone out the window)

Every so often a comment gets placed on these pages that really makes you stop and marvel at how staff just doing what they are trained to do can impact so hugely on someone's life. We're really pleased to hear that your husband has done so well since those dark days of July 2012 and is leading a normal life after what sounds such a traumatic time for all of you.

We know that our colleagues in the Lister's emergency department, radiology, cardiology and critical care teams will take great pleasure from reading your very kind words. And if we're lucky, maybe your unknown anaesthetic registrar will be amongst their number!

With very best wishes to you and Brian for the future - and many thanks again for getting in touch.
