"Brilliant support helped me reduce my drinking"

What superb support I received whilst being a patient recently at Chesterfield Hospital.

After being admitted with pains in my stomach, I was asked whether I wanted to talk to someone about my alcohol use. I was reluctant to start with because I didn't know what to expect, but I agreed and it was the best decision I made!

A nurse from the hospital's alcohol and drug service came to see me the next day. We talked about my use of alcohol, how it was affecting me, my life, my health and those around me. I knew that I was drinking too much but didn't know who to talk to about it...having the chance to talk whilst in hospital was brilliant and life-changing.

While I was in hospital, the nurse came back 3 times. I was given the chance to talk about things so openly, I did not feel judged and I left hospital feeling energised and motivated.

2 months later and I've achieved my goals - I only drink at weekends and way less than before. My life has changed for the better and mainly because I was given the chance to talk about it with such a caring and understanding person.

To the team: THANK-YOU so much! You said I could do it and I have!
