I was admitted to A&E very early Saturday morning. The first responder and follow-on paramedics were absolutely superb and very reassuring. The staff in A&E were absolutely brilliant, a little humour to defuse a very worrying situation, the care given by everyone involved with me was 1st class.

After initial treatment and stabilizing, i was transferred to the Acute Medical Assessment Unit. Once again, the care i received was wonderful. It would have been nice if i had been pre-warned it was a mixed ward, but that does not detract from the staff.

Later that night i was moved to short stay whilst further observatiions were made and investigations carried out. My whole experience within these units was a good one, the staff were very attentive day and night.

I was then moved to another ward for my last 2 days which was a strange choice, Amethyst, but apparently they are often sent 'interlopers' when they need to move patients out of short stay. Amethyst is a very unique ward with the most wonderful staff and if i had to be there for the condition the ward is intended (cancer) it would help me deal with the consequences of diagnosis.

The level of cleanliness was second to none.

The standard of the food however, was truly dreadful. I could only eat the salads as they at least did appear to be fresh. If i had had to be a in-patient for a longer period, i would have had more nutritional, fresh appetizing food brought into my by family.
