The issue I faced was when I had my son in King George hospital. I was lucky that I got a good midwife. I say I was lucky because few of my friends experienced rude midwives in the past (which is unacceptable!). Some of my friends even left the country to give birth.
I couldn't leave the country to give birth because a cyst was already growing inside and if I flew there was a risk of that bursting and danger for baby. So I chose to have the baby here. Even though the pregnancy went smoothly, I felt that the post pregnancy care I got was poor. None of the midwives came to me when I rang the bell. One of them told me it was time to go to the toilet alone because I had to get used to it. I had absolutely no support with breast feeding at all. I had to rely on the bottle, because there was no support and the baby was hungry. I had stress because I was feeling guilty that I couldn't breast feed, as it is very important in our culture and also that is the best thing ever for the baby. I remember reading numerous posters and newsletters printed by NHS stressing about the importance of breastfeeding. But they did not actually help, and just gave out printed things for me to read. I felt I got poor service, and my care was just a tick box exercise!
