I gave birth to my daughter at the Royal Berks last year, using both the midwife-led and regular maternity units. Throughout my stay the midwives were relaxed, kind and helpful. Due to a very long labour I was taken to theatre for a von tous delivery and the surgical staff were wonderful, withe the aneasthetist even visiting my bed afterwards to meet my little girl. At what I know can be a stressful time, I found that there was a calm environment which I appreciated. Also, after the birth I rang the buzzer in the night every time I wanted to try and breastfeed and got lots of help with latching on. I also attended the breastfeeding clinc a few times in the weeks afterwards and don't think I would have been so successful at breastfeeding if it was for the guidance of the midwives and breastfeeding counsellors - it really was a fabulous service down there and I highly recommend it to new mums.
