"A&E"

About: Darlington Memorial Hospital

Anything else?

We arrived in A&E on a Monday morning at 5.30am with my Husband who suffers with Crohns Disease. He was experiencing severe pain and we were told to take a seat in the waiting area. We were the only people sat here and thought that we would be seen to quickly, given that the majority of the staff were sat around and on the desk in the A&E department. We sat here and listened to the staff discussing their daily chores and holiday experiences all the while my husband was in tears with the pain. The cleaner clocked on at 6.00am and proceeded to pick up a few rubbish items around the waiting area, maybe they need an eye check-up as they left more rubbish than they picked up? I now know why hospitals arent that clean as they certainly didnt even clean any seats or mop any floors. Surely if there is only 2 people sat in one part of the department then they could have washed the area and mopped the floor. Perhaps i am missing something here but it certainly wasnt cleaned. My husband was then called in to see what i presume was a doctor, hard to tell as they never introduced themselves, could have been a nurse?. They spent more time typing with one finger that actually listening to what we had to say. After an examination they decided to admit my husband but there were to beds and said they would transfer him to Durham! We refused this as we explained it was to far away. They asked us what we wanted them to do to which my husband said i normally have an x-ray to see what is happening. They didnt reply. I asked for some pain relief for my husband who was given a packet of Tramadol and told us to contact our GP. We contacted the Crohns specialist in Bishop Auckland and was given an xray straight away. My husband is now receiving the meds and care he needs from Bishop Auckland. I would recommend anyone with a choice to go to Bishop instead, much cleaner, much quicker and certainly more caring.
