"Cut backs at QMC Nottingham"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I went to the Queen's Medical Centre hospital in Nottingham for a small routine eye operation and everything was fine before and during the operation. However after the operation I needed some chloramphenicol 1.0% eye drops, like most of the other people on my ward, and had to wait over 2 hours for them because we were told there had been cut backs at the hospital and they had only one pharmacy in the whole hospital and only 2 pharmacists running it, one of which had walked out earlier that day. The ward was totally overcrowded because of all of us waiting for our prescriptions and because everyone for the operations taking place in the afternoon was arriving. This waiting was also totally unnecessary because the eye drops I needed are available from almost every pharmacy in the country as they are one of the standard prescriptions for eye infections etc. The whole problem could easily be resolved if people who are easily able to, like myself, were asked to go and collect their prescriptions from their local pharmacies.
