I went into A and E on the request of my GP. I was not totally convinced that the visit was needed as I have a long standing health condition and am used to monitoring my symptoms. However he was concerned so I duely went in. It was busy but I was seen in reasonable time and blood needed to be taken. The nurse spent some painful minutes trying and failing to get an arterial sample - unnecessary pain as a venous sample was all that is required. Eventually because of low electrolyte levels further blood samples were taken and I was sent to an assessment ward. By this time I had been in over 4 hours I had explained that what I needed was a prescription for Sando K in order to raise my blood levels. I sat in reception in the assessment ward then a decision was made to move me to a room. A lady came out of the room vomiting into a cardboard tray. On being challenged she replied 'It was only water' and allowed to come out of the room she had been in and wait in reception. I was then moved to the room she had come from, one nurse asked if it had been cleaned but the subject was not taken up and I was parked in there. By this time I had been in the hospital 5 hours and was tired and thirsty it was over 7 hours since i had had a drink. Knowing my symptoms were not severe and not able to face further delay and waiting when all I needed were tablets I discharged myself checking to ensure that my potassium levels although low were within reasonable limits (in my case). It was also mentioned that my white blood cell count was low, unsurprising as it is a side effect of my condition.

The next day and for all of the next week I have had nausea and sickness to a debilitating level it has been hard to even keep down drinks and tablets I can only put this down to my stay in the hospital and wish to draw to attention this lapse in hygeine and the consequences to mysel,f a worsening in my condition, loss in weight and further reduction in potassium as I was ill with vomiting all week.
