I was taken into a&e in September last year with excruciating stomach pains and had emergency surgery the next day. Diagnosed with diverticulitis and had a colonoscopy (stoma). I was told I had great difficulties with my oxygen levels during the operation but re-suss staff were on hand to pull me through. Forever grateful and all the professionals involved were very caring, supportive and approachable and came to visit me regularly in the ward to see how I was doing. Daytime nurses were very supportive and efficient and it was a happy ward with lots of laughter which added to the recovery and well being of myself and all the patients in the ward who enjoyed their stay. I found they were short staff at night and it took a while for nurses to respond when I pressed the buzzer for help. I still have to attend outpatient appointments and these are always carried out efficiently and I can ring up my stoma nurse any time for support and help. I have been told that I can have the colonoscopy reversed which I will do but feel nervous as its quite a major op but at the same time I have a lot of confidence in my consultant and her team. I've now got a hernia which Im told is quite common so they will have to deal with this when I have the reversal. I'm hoping they could sneak in a tummy tuck to flaten my stomach a bit but thats doubtful.
