I had a big toe fusion operation 2 weeks ago which went well and I have had minimal pain afterwards.

The staff were amazing, the nurses and physiotherapists were really funny and entertaining whilst being professional also. There is nothing better for recovery than laughter and they made the ward (ward 4) a happy place to be.

The tea and food people were also brilliant. All round the staff were excellent at customer service as it should be, eg no robotic questions and answers like you find so often nowadays. It was refreshing to be spoken to like a human by a human with a personality and not just someone who was being paid to ask if you were ok.

My only issue has been trying to get in touch with someone from the orthopedic department since the operation to try and find out when my stitches need to come out. I imagine I was told but had been given morphine and don't remember. It would be good if some form of 'aftercare' leaflet was given in case you have any questions. I received a leaflet explaining the risk of blood clots, and a prescription for painkillers and how often they should be taken but that is all. If I was a worried little old lady this could be very distressing, not knowing when I can walk on the foot/take off the anti-blood clot sock, when I can shower without a plastic bag on the foot etc.

That is the only negative I have though so I would 110% recommend Wythenshawe without a doubt. In fact, I would go so far as to tell people to have a big toe fusion even if they don't need it, it was that good. And I do not understand what all the fuss is about regarding food. I was impressed we got 3 courses and it was nice, arrived hot, was healthy and when you have eaten for 20 hours it was hugely appreciated.

Please send my greatest thanks for the 2 spice girl physiotherapists (I can't remember their real names) and all the wonderful nurses (again morphine prevented me from remembering any names).
