"hysteroscopy at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was referred for an ultrasound by my GP due to erratic menstruation. A polyp was found in my womb during the ultrasound and my GP was informed, with the suggestion that I see a specialist. I was referred by my GP using the Choose and Book service, and got an appointment within a couple of weeks.

When I saw the specialist, I was told that I needed a hysteroscopy to remove the polyp and that it could be done under local anaesthetic, within the week.

I was warned that it does not always work under local and that I might need to have it done under general. This is what happened and I was quickly given another appointment for an operation under general - again within a week or so. Before being admitted, I was checked for MRSA and the usual blood tests.

The operation went fine and I was told as soon as I came round, back on the ward, that there appeared to be nothing wrong - ie nothing malignant/cancerous! - and that I would be given another appointment within a month just to make sure all was OK..

At every stage of this process, all the staff were caring and professional, from the receptionists to the consultants. I never had to wait more than a few minutes at any appointment. All the appointments were easily booked. I was even sent copies of the letters that the hospital sent to my GP, giving reports of what was happening.

I'd like to thank the Queen Elizabeth hospital for such an amazing service for what was a pretty minor problem and to tell anyone going for a similar operation there that the staff are brilliant..
