"Very disappointed"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

Anything else?

I attended Rochdale emergency care unit with my 8 week old son who was having trouble breathing. We were taken straight through to see a doctor who informed me that they would be taking us over to oldham in an ambulance as there are no paediatric doctors in the urgent care unit. I asked if I could drive over to oldham as I didn't want to be stuck on the other side but as told that an ambulance would be needed and transport would be sorted on the other side.

We got to oldham at 19:30 and was told that there were 3 children in front of us. After an hour and half of waiting I asked if there was anywhere I could get a drink. The nurse pointed me to a room but said I wasn't allowed to take my baby in. When I told her there was no one with me to hold him she suggested that a stranger in the waiting room should hold him which I found appalling! We didn't get seen by a doctor until 23:30ish my son was given medicine for bronchitis and we were told we could go home at 00:15.

When I told the doctor and the nurse that we had been brought in an Ambulance and was told by rochdale staff that they would arrange travel for us I was told to go and use the taxi free phone at the front entrance! I explained to the staff that the only money I had on me was for the car park at Rochdale A&E and that I had wanted to drive so I wasn't left in this situation they apologised and said I have to get a taxi!

The fact that a taxi from oldham to rochdale would have cost me over £15 was annoying but what was worse was that they were sending a 8week old baby with bronchitis to go and wait for a taxi in the freezing cold at 00:30 in the morning. Absolutely disgusted!
