"Nightmare experiences"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

Anything else?

I have had a few separate nightmare experiences.

Twice, nearly had a full hip replacement done, cancelled whilst wearing op gown, which eventually was correctly diagnosed as bursitis.

Admitted to the stroke ward with numbness down right side, the following day I had neck and spinal pain which was followed with paralysis of my left leg and all around lower torso. The nurse did her own diagnosis as a recurring shoulder pain, even though I kept repeating and pointing to the back of my neck and down my spine, even preschool children know which is their neck and which is their shoulder! Did not seem informed of my spinal condition. The following morning a phsyio came and ordered me, in a very unpleasant manor, to walk down the corridor, with him and a nurse holding me up, it was impossible to stand with paralysis in both legs. He would not believe I had paralysis in my right leg and thought I was making it up! He shouted at me, (can’t walk won’t walk,) threatened to put me in the hoist ward. Everyone was looking, staff and patients; it was all very upsetting, frightening and distressing. He was rude to my husband on the phone, etc.

Have heard he is not working there any longer.

Since, I have been unable to sleep in a bed even a recliner bed and can only get support on a very firm recliner chair. Lower discs have collapsed in my spine.

I now go to Hexham Hospital with my spinal problem, which is so different, they treat you with respect, as a human, are very professional, my consultations have lasted 1 to 2 hours, so thorough, don’t rush you. If they are behind with appointments (which is very rare), a nurse keeps you updated.

I have complained about this last episode and received an apology, but it should not have happened.

Communication is lacking.
