I attended one of the Gyn clinic with my partner following a referral from my GP to Gyn consultant to discuss my severe pain during intercourse, and an Ovarian cyst which was found incidentally during the investigations for the cause of the painful intercourse. On arrival , one of the student nurses deleted the name of the consultant who we came to see from the board and put down the name of her SPR. This was never explained to any of the patients. Although we were expecting to see the consultant, we did not mind being seen by the SPR ( both me and my partner are doctors and been there before). However, when we saw the middle grade, she was obviously overwhelmed by the amount of patient she had to see on her own due to the unexpected absence of her consultant. The SPR did not try to explore our main concern with the intercourse problem. She spent a few minutes only with us and decided to book USS for me, as OP and then will see me in 2 months. My partner tried to explain to the registrar that we did the USS at one of the DGHs and very recently in private clinic at Harley street by one of the Gyn imaging consultants, and it is not only the cyst that causing concerns. Obviously it is the intercourse problem, the uncertainty if I can try to conceive or not. Any one could expect the amount of relationship pressure these 2 subjects are forming, apart from the SPR who saw us and wanted only to get rid of us by doing another USS and then OP in 2 months. The SPR did not think of checking my CA125, although I explained to here that I have never had my smear test done. I was told not to stop the pills because this can cause more problems, and since I have been avoiding pregnancy for the last 2 years, I can wait another 2 months! I do understand the need of imaging in my case, but what I am more concerned about are the following:

1- We were not given any explanation about the absence of the consultant or whether my case will be discussed with the consultant retrospectively.

2- My case will not resolve in 2 months as the SPR told me, especially if I see again someone who can not take decision and show empathy.

3- We both felt that the junior doctor just wanted to through our case on someone else. I do feel the pressure she was having, but if she did not have any support from her consultant at that time, she should have not done the clinic.

4- Both of us were very dissatisfied that Birmingham women's left a junior doctor running new patient's Gyn clinic without any support, or back up. This is a serious potential risk.

5- I feel really disappointed now, because my main problem which has been causing a considerable deal of pressure on my life, has not been taken on board during my consultation.

I really do not want this to happen to any one else, or any other patient to suffer like me. I am not aiming to hurt any one, neither the junior doctor or any other member of the staff. However, It is my own life which is going to be affected.
