my father is 67, had full leg bypass in feb. it got blocked and had another smaller one in november which got blocked aswell. he was told hed need an amputation or carry on for as long as he can which he chose to carry on. the cut on his leg never healed and had a thick dry scab. then on mon jan 14th it was starting to get infected and needed dressing. antibiotics didnt seem to work and the district nurse came out twice to dress it. then on fri jan 18th said she didnt like the look of it and asked him to go a/e as it was yellow stringy gunk and trying to turn black. the guy that first checks you over seemed sarcastic. then when a cubicle was free a doc came to look him over. didnt even look under the dressing and could see it weeping in the middle so he said he didnt need to look. however he did ring the surgeon to come and look and was told he wasnt coming in because 'it was the weekend'! so at that point with my dad in agony we were sent home and told the district nurse will come out to change the dressing which took them 2 days. the next day, mon jan 21st, i took dad back to a/e. we were told he had dry gangrene in his foot and gangrene necrosis on his leg which has now turned all black, widened considerably and even has a deep crater. they were shocked at fridays visit. my dad was told by a surgeon they would amputate the next day. that got canceled. then was told it would be in the morning. that got canceled and was set for late afternoon. that got canceled. now were told its tomorrow. if they try cancel again i will go absolutely nuts! hes been very worried about having the op anyway and to go through preparing himself for it several times and starving for 3 days is awful!! im in the same boat because im scared for his life.

We are extremely sorry to read the care you have received was not to the standard we would expect. We understand surgery is an extremely anxious time for patients and their family, and multiple cancellations adds to this anxiety.

I can assure you your concerns have been raised with the clinical staff and managers involved. Providing high quality care and giving our patients a positive experience is extremely important to our Trust. We take all concerns very seriously and will always undertake a full investigation.
