"Birth unit/women’s centre, under staffed & lack of..."

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

Anything else?

Under staffed and staff over-worked! Lack of beds! Patients not acknowledged by staff on arrival when ringing the doorbell! Patients leaving the waiting area when coming for a check-up without even being seen because they are left waiting for hours! patients with potential life-threatening problems left without acknowledgment in waiting area! Patients are left waiting while having contractions in the waiting area in front of other patients and their partners/family members! No answer when repeatedly ringing the doorbell! Patients are left worried that they will give birth in the waiting area! Staff are stressed and this is made obvious to the patients who just want a quiet secure place to give birth. Staff tell you how you are feeling and do not listen because they have so many people to "deal with"! I was told I was not in labour, that my contractions were not real and that I should go home with paracetamol. I gave birth under an hour later after insisting on stronger pain relief. Staff do not listen to their patients! Once you give birth they do not offer advice or make regular checks unless you ask. I never asked for anything as I felt that I would be bothering them. Had to ask the cleaner where the dining area was and what to do with my baby when going to get food. Was not sure if I would be permitted to take the baby bed into the breakfast room. Even a note on the side of the crib would have been nice. Not a good experience Gloucester!! In fact very poor!!
