Having been taken by ambulance and admitted to QEQM hospital on 4/1/13 I have nothing but praise for your hospital.
On arrival I was in considerable pain having cholecystitis & Pancreatitis, I was attended to quickly in the clinical decisions unit and cared for by a very compassionate nurse, pain relief was administered quickly and all of the staff were very professional.
I was admitted to the Cheerful Sparrows Female ward and the care I received during my five day stay was exceptional. The ward was very busy but all the nurses were amazing and everything ran very smoothly.
My consultant and his team visited me daily, they were a great team who spoke to me daily on an equal level and fully informed me of my condition, they were so helpful and I would like to say a huge thank you to them, they were very reasuring and kept me informed at every level, a credit to the hospital.
Once stable on the ward I had to have general surgery to perform a Cholecystectomy and hernia repair, the anaesthetist took time to talk through my fears and never made me feel hurried, allowing me to ask questions his reassurance and calming manor helped a lot.. Nurses spent time with me before I went to theatre and made me feel very calm, and gave a hug as I was wheeled out to theatre, all these little things make for a positive experience.
On recovery from my procedure I was in considerable pain, I would like to mention a the recovery nurse, he calmed me and arranged for pain relief promptly and made the experience so much easier, he was calm, caring and very reassuring, a credit to his profession.
Once back on the Cheerful Sparrow Ward I was cared for by a nurse to which nothing was too much trouble she went beyond my expectations of care for both myself and other patients on the ward and is a credit to the hospital.
I stayed in Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital for five days and my experience was very positive. The wards were spotlessly clean and kept that way by an efficient team of staff daily. The meals that were served were hot and of restaurant standard , the young man who worked for Serco and served the meals was very professional, taking time to assist the elderly with choosing their meals and ensure that they were able to eat their food, a far cry from the media reports of elderly being left without meals, this is most definitely not what I experienced during my stay at QEQM hospital.
I am very pleased to be sharing a most positive experience and I would not hesitate to recommend QEQM hospital to anyone.
