(as the patient),

I went to get new hearing aid batteries and was told I was only allowed 2 packs.

When I first got my hearing aid approx 5 years ago, I was allowed 4 packs each visit. Then it dropped to 3 packs and now 2 packs.

What's next? 1 battery per visit?

Dear Arthur,

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble picking up the amount of battery packs you need.

I have contacted the Audiology department for you. It was acknowledged that the number of patients now being referred and treated has increased, making it necessary to distribute limited resources evenly. All batteries have a shelf life and it was discovered that a number of patients were not using their batteries by the use by date.

There has never been any intention to ration the batteries that a patient needs, and I am sorry that this was experienced, but rather just how they are distributed, to minimise possible wastage.

When new batteries are needed, the department is happy to be contacted and the batteries will be sent out to you in the post.
