Anything else?
I had my first baby at Stepping Hill in April 2012. I had to be induced due to small complications but the midwives on delivery were wonderful. After 37 hours of labour, 4 midwives really took care of me. I had to be rushed off to surgery after giving birth but again I was looked after, as was my husband and my daughter.
However, once I was on the maternity ward it was as though I wasn't there. No-one came to check on me or my daughter, no-one checked I was feeding her ok, despite being numb after surgery from the waist down. No-one checked I was ok to get to the bathroom or shower (after labour a shower is so needed!) I gave birth at 11:47 and didn't get to the shower until 6! Once visitors had been and gone, my husband was able to hang around because no-one again had been over to see me. At 9 he was eventually reminded he had to leave and only because he'd asked for paracetamol for me for a headache. Despite him asking it still took me asking twice more before a midwife finally came to see me at midnight! 2 paracetamol and an injection I should've had after my op, still no-one asked how I was, how I was feeding my daughter, nothing. A restless night on a noisy ward, getting used to being a mum. Husband returned and my daughter and I were examined. I was told I was able to go home but I had to wait for a doctor to discharge me. This was at 10am. By 6pm we were still waiting. At 8pm the midwife got bored of me asking to go home, she discharged me instead!
Started off a wonderful experience but ended leaving me feeling neglected. Think ill consider other hospitals or home birth if I have any other children. I don't want to left to feel I wasn't being thought about again
