"Dementia stay"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

Anything else?

The standard of care dementia patients get in this hospital is short of sub standard the hospital is not clean the moral of the staff is poor the service provided was poor. My mother has dementia and has Been admitted a few times to hospital my mother flung a jug of water pulled her needles from her arm due to her illness we were told she would be banned from hospital if it continued...my mother did not know she done any of this as she has severe dementia...we took the decision that she will not be sent to this hospital ever again....maybe more dementia training could be given to staff ..I do hope I do not need to use this hospital in the future

Thank you for your comment about our hospital, we are sorry that you did not have a positive experience of your mother's care while she was an inpatient. We would like to reassure you that our staff do have training on managing patients with dementia and we would would like to fully investigate your concerns. Please contact us on corporate.affairs@chsft.nhs.uk if you would like us to follow this up.
