Community Midwifes

The community midwifes seen throughout mine and my childs care where farely professional. There seemed to be a bit of an inconsistance of midwife at my local GP, which caused a less personal approached as I had to retell my care to other cover midwifes. On a critical point for all midwifes to consider is how they value the dads. There was numerus occassions were my husband felt pushed out - even told "You only have to go for the scans." In most cases the dad / parner plays a substantial part of a childs life why is this not the same for before. Gladdly the morth is the one carrying the child but they are there as support to the mother and should be involved, it does not take much to included them in conversation.

I left hospital the early hours of christmas eve being advised of a midwife visit at home the same day but this never occured nor was we then contacted at all. This was probably due to the lack of midwifes on over christmasMy own and the communication between the hospital and community care, "where I just slipped through the net". I worry if I hadn't of contacted them would anyone have contacted me - thankfully I am a trained early year professional and knew what I was doing but some others wouldn't.

Hospital Care

The care I recieved during my 5 day stay in hospital was really good, all the professionals did their up most for you - in some cases going beyond the level of care, like making drinks and meals. i had a particular horrid birth and during my birthing emergancy the care and the effeciency of dealing with it was fantastic - probably saved my life.

My only critical refection is a ward at the LGI which is also a storage room - this caused extra noise and distruption.

Health Visitor Service

This service was the most disappointing. The health visitor signed to me initially had the wrong due date and tried to arrange the anti - natal visit months before. the letter for this came without a contact number so I had to travel to their building where I found no one in so left a message on the internal phone asking to rearrange nearer to the time. Following a conversation and the arrangement to change the date I then recieved a letter congratulating me on the birth of my child with an appointment date. I then rang to confirm what was going on - where she said she must have printed the wrong letter. When she came out to us, thankfully had took on board what me and my parner do for a living but she didn't seem to be confident and it just came across like she didn't know what she was doing. After the birth for her next visit we didn't get any notification she just rocked up on the door step, where we greated her in night wear. She was with us 5 minutes asked about depression and the restains of mother hud, ticking her boxes. After she had gone we recieved notification in the mail.

Thank you for your comments about your recent experience of our maternity services - we take on board your comments about including fathers as it is something we strive to do and we are sorry we didn't get it right for you both as a couple. Following transfer home from hospital the midwife normally visits the following day - so that would have been Christmas Day.
