"Birth of our son 29/12/12"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

Anything else?

I went into labour in the early hours of Friday morning, I was due to come I for an induction on Friday. I wanted a natural birth with as little as possible medical intervention. By the time I got to cedar ward I was 4 cm dilated. There was no room for me to be admitted on the aspen ward nor the delivery ward. I remained on the cedar ward until I 6-7 cm dilated. The cedar ward had one midwife working who was clearly stressed due to the high work load. Being in established labour the cedar ward was not an appropriate place for me to labour and I was slightly disheartened that I remained there so long. Eventually I got moved to the Aspen ward and was given an amazing midwife. The birthing room was fantastic, and a wonderful step up from the cedar ward. The midwife stayed with us and couldn't have been more attentive and kind. The birth of my son was the most incredible experiences of both my partner and I have had. Thanks to the midwife and her instructions I managed on just gas and air and never had time to use the pool. From what started as a poor experience by the end it exceeded by far any expectations I had. Further to this, the ladies that then have me treatment and stitches in the labour ward were also fantastic, very friendly, reassuring and put up with my gas and air induced outbursts.

Massive thanks to everyone who made the birth odour son unforgettably perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to write this feedback, especially at what must be such a busy time for you. We are very sorry that you were delayed being taken to Aspen Ward, unfortunately the unit was extremely busy that day. It is lovely to hear that your labour / delivery was such an incredible experience for you all and that we exceeded your expectations. We wish you and your family many congratulations on the birth of your son.
