What I liked

Initial triage via the medical assessment unit was very thorough and professional if a bit slow. Assigned a bed after 2 or 3 hours. The ward was busy but seemed well organised

What could be improved

Discharge arrangements were horrendous. I was asked by a senior charge nurse to wait in the visitor lounge and I'd be seen for the drip to be removed.

An hour and a quarter later on a hard plastic seat I asked the same nurse how much longer I'd need to wait, he didn't seem overly concerned about the length of wait and said he'd do it in a while. Eventually a doctor who happened to be wandering past asked what the problem was and he removed the drip within 2 minutes, whilst the original nurse pottered around in reception.

After another 15 minutes of 'nothingness' I went to the senior nurse in reception who casually announced that no medication or discharge letter would be available that day and to come back tomorrow, he didn't even enquire what had happened to the drip he'd promised to remove. This also left me with a 20 hour gap in antibiotic treatment with no explanation of any risks or preventative care.

There didn't seem to be a sense of duty of care once 'unseated' from a bed - this is the term this nurse used in reference to me being moved to the lounge in discussion with someone else. This sugegsted a level of arrogance which didn't reflect my treatment from the other doctors or nurses.
