What could be improved
I would like to publish this comment about the staff at the haematology department at Sunderland royal hospital .
I attend there for treatment for a form of cancer , eventually this cancer is going to end my life .
Some of the nurses / staff here are very nice and do the job well and are always polite and courteous ( the key word being ' always ' )
Others can appear moody and offhand , they can also ask insensitive questions or make insensitive comments .
For example , One nurse , while getting irritated because they could not find my correct prescription on her monitor asked me for no particular reason ,
' is this your first or second lot of chemotherapy ' this may seem like an innocent question to ask , but it immediately reminded me of the fact that when i do have my second lot of chemotherapy treatment my outlook is quite bleak , I can only receive chemotherapy twice and then the cancer will probably end my life .
As far as i could see there was no reason to ask this question , they could have simply looked at my notes instead of asking me this insensitive , thoughtless question which left me quite distressed and upset , when i returned to my husband in the car i was actually in tears .
Staff here should try to do this job with the professionalism and thoughtfulness they would expect a member of their own family to receive if they had cancer , if they cannot do this then maybe work in another department .
Staff at the Haematology department really do need to think about the things they say and the way they act beforehand , people have enough to worry about without having to put up with petulant nursing staff .
"Needs improvement"
