What I liked

A&E staff very good. As family we were kept well informed at all times. On the ward where my relative was treated staff again very good. Ward was clean and warm.

What could be improved

Food at Blackburn unappetizing. My relative ate none of the meals offered and found even cups of tea undrinkable. Luckily we were able to take in food and drink. Catering dept. should get a few tips from Burnley General Hospital - food there is good.

Having to 'run the gauntlet' of the smokers at the main entrance is completely unacceptable.

I visited twice a day for 10 days and every time there were smokers - both visitors and patients. I find it amazing that this is allowed to happen especially as there are large notices stating that smoking is NOT allowed anywhere. This portrays the hospital in such a bad light to visitors.

The patient smokers even take hospital equipment such as infusion pumps with them outside. I very much hope these are thoroughly disinfected on return to the ward. Ironically after you enter the hospital you then pass an information board all about quitting smoking.
