"Absolutely awful."

What I liked

When entering the minor injuries unit last Tuesday, the receptionist was very welcoming and friendly.

What could be improved

Id been suffering with UTI for 5 days which had developed into severe vomitting, headache, nausea and feeling very confused. I contacted NHS direct as my local GP couldnt give me an appointment that day and I was told that I needed to be seen by someone in the next 6 hours incase of the worst case scenario, it had be septicamia. As you medical professions know, septicaemia can be a life threatening illness. I was told to come to the minor injuries unit at this hospital and was treated by a lovely receptionist, however the layout of where the reception is, is terrible, there is no discretion at all and all other patients waiting to be seen could probably tell what each others problems were as the waiting area is so close to where you have to say why you need to be seen. The nurse was very prompt with getting me in, fair enough, but as soon as I sat down, I felt incredibly intimidated as she told me "There isn't even a doctor in today, why can't you just go to your GP. Thats where you should be, not here." I explained to her that I couldn't get an appointment when she said "why not?!" in such a forceful, foul way, she made me feel like I was in the wrong for being concerned for my health, in fact she made me cry. Various other comments were made and although I am a young adult, she treated me as though I were a naughty school child. Staff training definitely needs improvement, to speak to someone in such a disrespectful way when someone is unwell as it is, is atrocious. I am very unhappy. Fortunately, my GP contacted me, provided me with medication and I am only just starting to feel better. Had this been a worst case scenario as stated above, Stroud hospital would be in a serious mess for turning me away in such an impolite manner. Please train the staff to learn some manners, I am normally a very calm person but if I ever need to return, hopefully not, I would not be happy to be treated by that nurse again.
