"Admin problems at Brighton and Hove Polyclinic "

About: Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust

(as the patient),

I have been under the same doctor for several years for steroid injection for pain management I have no complaints about my clinical care but as a result of some clerical staff and appointment systems my interventions have been delayed beyond acceptable limits on many occasions. A 2 year wait following a cancelled appointment (due to hip surgery) and now the doctor requested a 3 month follow up after a visit in July.

I was asked to chase if no appointment came through by September. When I chased I was told by a receptionist that doctors give unrealistic expectations and it would be at least 18 months before another appointment. I was told I could shout and scream or hang up but it would not help.

I am not this type of person but clearly this rude member of staff is used to this response. This it totally unacceptable and since when do clerical staff have the power to override a doctors plan if care? If a 3 month follow up is requested then it should be actioned.

I have had my orthopaedic surgeon and GP highlight the urgency of my case.

I am looking forward to a response from the clinic but won't hold my breath.
