"Perfectly polite but pointless visit."

About: St Mary's Hospital (Portsmouth)

What I liked

All the staff in the sexual health area were very friendly and efficient.

What could be improved

There was a long wait.

But principally I do not understand the reason I had to visit. I went to see my GP to ask about having a coil fitted, and he talked to me for some time about the benefits and drawbacks of it, and then said they couldn't do it, I had to go to the drop in centre. I did this, and had to attend a pointless assessment meeting where the woman I spoke to simply said exactly what my gp had already said to me. I still haven't had my coil fitted, and have to make a third appointment to go and actually have this done. I have no complaint about the courtesy or friendliness of the staff, who were exemplary, but I cannot understand the need to have to make three separate journeys for such a simple procedure. I work full time and I have to take time off work for each of these visits. I do not understand in particular the purpose of the assessment visit today, which as mentioned before was simply a repeat of the information provided to me by my GP. This is incredibly inefficient and a waste of everyone's time.
