"Would I allow these people to operate on my family..."

About: Wansbeck Hospital

What I liked

I read the previous comment and had to voice my opinion, I saw a doctor in January of this year, having previously being dismissed at another hospital in another area, I had a large lump in my breast and i knew something was wrong.

The doctor was very thorough as were the nurses working along with him and even when my Mammogram and scan showed clear, they insisted on a biopsy and then a core biopsy, this confirmed their suspicions ,I in fact had a large tumour and subsequently had my breast taken off the following week, In the X Ray dept you do only get a piece of throw away paper to cover yourself but it is plenty big enough and I am a large woman. They do this for hygiene reasons .

The male member of staff, whom I have met twice now , introduces himself on each occasion and is very polite , a qualified medical professional and I had no problems having part of my body exposed in a locked room with two experienced medical staff there.

I have since had more surgery to remove cancer from my lymph glands and chemotherapy and radiotherapy and will have the other breast removed in view of the fact my other cancer did not show on any tests.

Had it not been for this doctor and his team, It may well have been too late to treat my cancer as it had been there for a long time and shrugged off by another hospital.

I realise that I have been very lucky, I know I don't have a guarantee that I will be cancer free but I have a far better prognosis after being treated by their team .

I know sometimes at hospitals you feel rushed , but they have a hefty workload and trust me, I wish i had been offered extra tests at the first hospital, modesty compromised, spoken to rudely, whatever !!! I would at least have been satisfied that everything had been done to discover my cancer !

When you are faced with such a serious diagnosis and a big tumour, you thank God every day that they were so thorough !

What could be improved

Yes , the wait in X Ray is a drag, but a lot of people are sick and injured and the hospital only have so many staff and facilities.

What can be inproved is, in the main only achievable by government funding of extra staff and facilities.

Anything else?

When faced with such devastating news, silly , insignificant problems like being covered in paper in the X Ray dept just don't compare.

I am just glad I have a greater understanding as to what these people put up with every day of their working lives, they chose to work in this profession and in the main, do it well !!!
