What I liked
I was scheduled for a minor surgery. My operation was on a Saturday and the nursing staffs were awesome. The doctor and anesthetist were also friendly and approachable. Unfortunately after the surgery , I was not given a followup appointment. As it was a minor operation, I was expected to return to work in a couple of days. My wound became an open , deep infected wound. I was helpless at home with no appointment. I did not want to be a baby but still forced my way to the GP, who only gave me antibiotic and no dressing. Following week I had to force my way back to the hospital to see a senior consultant. Once he got a chance to look, he was surprised that the wound had developed so much, he immediately gave me appropriate dressing. Till then I was sent home with no dressing , and these dressings are expensive. If I had been informed about the cost of dressing after surgery and chances of having deep wound I might have had a second thought about going in for the surgery. My initial few days sick turned out to be 1 month sick and a complete healing took 2 months. I have been mentally and physically stressed as it took time for proper post op care to be provided.
What could be improved
A followup appointment regardless of how minor the surgery as it is the responsibility of the surgeon for the care of the patient post-op. More staffing, efficient paper work..
"good experience despite a few pitfalls.. staff are..."
