I was reluctantly sent to triage late yesterday afternoon. I was petrified but knew it was the right thing to do for me and baby. I have been developing gestational hypertension. At my midwife appointment it hit an all time high and was admitted with immediate effect. I was warned the unit was busy at night and to get some clothes and food before arriving just in case as we could be in for a long wait and possible stay.
We arrived in the in the evening whilst the shift was changing. I believe we waited about 30-40mins and was taken to the bed for monitoring.
I had my bp taken which dramatically dropped to a safe level which was surprising due to my stress levels by this point. I was hooked to a baby heart and uterus monitor for a total of 30mins which is done via pads and bands around your belly and had a monitor to press for baby's movements.
I then had blood work done.
The unit was very quiet and staff had a calm and friendly presence. I was very pleased with the care received from the midwives and the support when taking bloods which I hate.
There was a substantial wait for the Dr to sign my notes and discharge me which was a little frustrating as midwife said everything was fine, we had been there approximately three hours by now.
I was given a lovely cup of tea. I am awaiting blood results this morning, fingers crossed all is well.
I can not fault the team, thank you ladies!
