What I liked
The Elderly Short Stay Ward was where my mother-in-law was transfered following assessment.
The care she received there can only be described as fabulous. She was treated with dignity, warmth, and respect by every member of staff attached to that ward. Her needs were identified speedily and attended to perfectly, this together with the superb care she received resulted in her speedy discharge home. A very frightened and frail elderly lady left the hospital happy and confident.
What could be improved
Her experiences in the assessment ward Gate 12.
The fact that patients are in single rooms may be a selling point to some, however they can also be a passport for none caring staff to ignore the patients within them for many hours. Which unfortunately was our experience.
Anything else?
The staff of the Elderly Short Stay Ward should be held as an example as how to care for a frightened, frail patient.
"Elderly, short term stay staff are professional..."
