"Special care baby unit and transitional care"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Maternity

(as a parent/guardian),

I only have positive things to say about the few days I spent in SCBU and transitional care when my first baby was born at East Surrey hospital. One of the midwives spotted that my baby had jaundice very early on so he was sent straight to SCBU.

There, although the team were obviously keen to start treating him, their approach to us and him was so professional but calming that we immediately felt in safe and caring hands.

They acted quickly but in no way rushed us, explained what they were doing every step of the way and answered every question we had. We were kept informed of our son's treatment and progress at every stage despite changes of shift and staff.

We were then given excellent advice about our options after SCBU which resulted in a three day stay in transitional care. Our days there were again full of quality advice, polite and helpful as well as professional staff who put us at ease and made the whole experience turn from one I was dreading to a very pleasant one.
