"The NHS as it should be, first class care that..."

About: Central Middlesex Hospital

What I liked

Quite simply, this hospital saved my life. I reported for a first Cardiology consultation and was admitted immediately with a dangerous arrhythmia thanks to the actions of the Doctor. An hour later, I was in Coronary Care with further tests that afternoon and angiogram the following day which revealed a coronary artery almost totally blocked in two places. The angioplasty procedure during which two stents were inserted was comfortable throughout and fascinating to watch. I cannot praise highly enough the standard of care I received, quite simply a model of how the NHS should be. Consultants, doctors, coronary care nurses, pharmacists, ambulance, admin and catering staff were all exemplerary in their professionalism and manner throughout. I owe the clinical staff a debt of gratitude far greater than they will ever know or that I can repay.

What could be improved

The greatest improvement I can think of would be to expand the services on site to include angiogram and angioplasty. This would eliminate the need to transport patients to Northwick Park or St Mark's and relieve pressure on those hospitals. Perhaps there are good reasons why things are the way they are though.

My discharge paperwork has not indicated any requirement for a follow up appointment which surprised me somewhat. I would have expected to see the doctor again to make sure everything is satisfactory.

Anything else?

The best medical care I have received. This hospital is modern and clean. I was seen on the dot, no waiting and the staff were all pleasant and helpful. I felt in safe and expert hands throughout my stay so wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hospital based on my own experience.

Can it really be true though that the NHS want to close A&E (and, I believe, most other departments) and move them to Northwick Park? I heard that this lovely six year-old hospital is to become some kind of day care centre. I don't understand the politics or economics but I do know that the medical care is wonderful and that, in my book, is what matters.
