What I liked

My 4 year old daughter was admitted to the Neptune children's ward for a Tonsillectomy + Adenoidectomy in Oct 2012.

Although this is a straight forward operation, as any parent would be I was dreading her going in for her op and had no idea what to expect.

The Nurses, HCAs and Doctors were all fantastic and made everything so much easier, putting my mind to rest completely. They explained everything to my daughter in terms she could understand which prevented it being a frightening experience and something she was quite at ease with. This operation is usually a day case but the nurses made it clear that there was no rush to have you out and offered parents the choice of staying in over night or going home depending on what you felt was best for your child and what you felt comfortable with. Those that chose to stay were made comfortable with put-up beds at the end of their child's. and offered drinks and snacks. The staff offered plenty of advice and made it clear once discharged you should contact them if you had any concerns at all.

It's never a nice experience when your child has to have an operation but with this level of care and attention from the staff, it's a much more tolerable experience.

What could be improved

The only slightly negative thing I could say was the ward was incredibly hot, but then fans were provided by every bed which made it more comfortable.
