What I liked
Initial treatment care and attention by doctor and nurses in A& E.
The hospital generally.
What could be improved
Nursing staff undermining doctors.
Nursing staff attention to individual cases.
Initially I was treated well, I was in and out of consciousness due to the cocktail of pain relief / muscle relaxants, etc. A while later there appeared to be a change of nursing staff the nurse who appeared to be in charge following the changeover was actually arguing with the doctor as to whether i should be moved to another department, I was positioned locally to the nurse station and was awakened to hear the discussions quite clearly.
I am not a local person but work in the area, I was stuck on my back with a trapped nerve and in severe pain with every movement, I managed to arrange a colleague to collect me later on in the early afternoon, the doctor suggested I stay where I was until collected.
A short while later the nurse told me to get up and make my way to the discharge lounge, after seeing my distress and pain when trying to move and a further intervention from the doctor an arrangement was made for someone to collect me and take me to the dicharge lounge, even getting onto the wheeled chair was problematic and painfull.
I appreciate beds are required but noted the area I was in was not very busy, I would normally expect nursing staff to understand patients problem and offer care so as not to cause further pain and discomfort, and to respect the doctors prognoses who treated the patient.
