I was on holiday recently and had forgotten to take some essential medication with me.
I popped into the local pharmacy who said they couldn't help me as it wasn't "out of hours". However, they were apologetic, explained that I'd need to see a GP and helpfully directed me to the surgery.
At the surgery I was met by pleasant, calm and efficient Shirley (I think she was the practice manager), who quickly took some details and offered me an appointment with a GP for a couple of hours later.
I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment, and as it was all completely new to me, wondered how I would know where to go when my name was called. I was called before my appointment time! Without asking I was directed to the second door on the right. When I walked along the corridor the GP (Nick Brown)was standing at the door waiting for me, realising that I was a visiting patient and might not know where to go. How thoughtful! Handshake, quick chat, reassurance that I'd done the right thing in not going without my medication for a week, script written and out the door before my appointment time was even due!
I nipped across to the pharmacy and five minutes later I was walking along country lanes and getting on with my holiday.
Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised that everything seemed so easy but I was, and I was impressed by the efficient and thoughtful handling of a forgetful divvy - me!
Thank you Lochmaben Surgery and pharmacy.
