My son has recently had his 2 year check. However this check was not with my Health visitor, which I previously thought, it was with a Nursery nurse.
I work in Early Years as an Area Co-ordinator for 4 nurseries. The recent amendments to the Early Year Foundation Stage (EYFS) state in the welfare requirements that a 2 year individual summary must be completed for both the parents and the Health Visitor to see at the child's 2 year Developmental check. However, when I gave my 2 year individual summary to the Nursery Nurse she put it under her paper work and did not seem interested in this. She began the check, which consisted of her asking me the majority of the questions about my child. At the end of the check I asked her what she was going to do with the 2 Year Individual Summary and she said that she had not seen one before and that she had not been told what to do with them, so she will not be using it.
I came away feeling angry that Health visitors/Nursery Nurses did not know about this, as I thought it was the purpose of the check, to bridge the gap between multi-professional working and to reduce children slipping through the net. Has any one else had this problem?
