"I would go to a different hosptial in future."

About: King George Hospital

What I liked

The nursing staff were incredibly friendly and polite. Some of the doctors that attended to me were also friendly.

I shared a room with one other patient and for someone who has a phobia of illness and hospitals, this helped.

What could be improved

Waiting times between scans, tests and seeing a doctor. On the second day I had to wait 5 hours for my ultrasound and then six hours the next to be discharged by a doctor!

Better communication between doctors. I saw so many doctors that I was getting a completely different diagnosis each time. At first they said I had appendicitis and I might have to have key hole surgery which frightened me! Then they said it might be an ovary cyst that had burst and then they just put it down to a viral infection. I was discharged on the 3rd day not really sure what was wrong with me.

Anything else?

The A & E GP was very nice and attentive. I was just disappointed with the waiting time. I was told I had an appointment at 9.10pm but wasn't seen until around 10pm - and I was in quite a lot of pain so this was a difficult wait!

I wasn't sure what was happening half the time as no one seemed to tell me. I had 3 urine tests done. One doctor said I had a urine and blood infection, the next doctor told me I didn't.

I left without a real diagnosis, despite the fact I am convinced it was a UTI - yet no one seemed to pick up on it, telling me it was either appendicitis or a burst ovary cyst but they still didn't seem to know and just discharged me with just painkillers.

The doctor who discharged me was rude. He passed me in the corridor, didn't really stop to talk to me but quickly said, "Oh yeah, I've discharged you, you can go" like he had forgotten to tell me with no care or attention and after 6 hours of waiting.

Overall, the hospital was clean and the nurses were friendly but I felt there was a complete lack of communication between staff which left me confused, frightened at times and I am still not really sure what was wrong with me.
