"Disposal of Contaminated Sharps "
Posted by Bobbler (as ),
Hi I am the father of two beautiful daughters, both of whom have type 1 diabetes.
Our local health service, Dewsbury, has told us that the hospital will no longer provide sharps bins or dispose of full ones. Instead we have been told we have to use a council run service called 'Bin the Pin'.
This is a service originally set up to deal with contaminated sharps from drug users and it's woefully inadequate. The council takes two weeks to turn up, cannot give a date or time for collection and suggest that we leave the full bin outside the house for days until they can collect it. The hospital thinks this is a done deal and the council believes it is just doing the hospital a favour.
Our children aren't drug addicts and we shouldn't be forced into using a service which isn't fit for purpose just because a manager somewhere thinks by ticking this box it saves the hospital money.
