"Very impressive staff, very considerate, totally..."

About: Basildon University Hospital

What I liked

I attended the breast care unit with my wife yesterday (Weds Sept 26th) for her first examination having been referred by GP. Following initial examination it was necessary to carry out a biopsy.

The care, professionalism and skill of the 3 people in attendance was outstanding, i am sorry i did not catch everyones names as i was invited in to be with my wife who was very anxious but there was a doctor completing the procedure assisted by two nursing staff (one in blue and the other in white top). The staff were amazing and the reassurance given to us both was more important than they could imagine. Although it was my wife who had to endure the procedure i lost my mother to breast cancer when i was 14 (i am now 51) after 6 years of the most aggressive illness she died with us at home.

I lost my first wife in a car accident in 1998 and so as i entered the room yesterday to comfort my wife the staff could never have been aware of the emotion i felt. To be treated so well by such capable staff as i sat with my wife yesterday was so important. Every step was explained, every care taken and ultimately my wife barely felt a thing. The aftercare was brilliant and hopefully the results will be too.

Thank you.

David & Sarah.

What could be improved

Just the wait time - not something of serious issue given the excellent staff.

Credit to the little lady from OCS who battled the foul weather to keep the floors clean and dry at the A&E entrance all morning.

Male visitor toilet adjacent to breast care unit was out of order and the disabled toilet failed to flush and was out of hand cleansing material.
